In preparation of the SIDS Symposium, research was conducted by UNDESA's Division for Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM) to update country profiles on Frameworks for People Engagement covering the 37 SIDS. The results provide a preliminary overview of the legal, regulatory and organizational frameworks in place. 27 (73%) out of the 37 SIDS have provisions enshrining access to public information in their constitution; 13 countries (35%) have enacted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to legally enforce the right to access public information; nine countries (24%) have a Data Protection Act (DPA) to support privacy and confidentiality of information; and 18 countries (49%) have an Economic and Social Council (ESC) or similar institution in place
