Description:

The National Substantive Training (NST) workshop on Open Government Data for Sustainable Development was organized by the Division for Public Administration and Development Management (DPADM) of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA) in partnership with Access to Information Programme of the Prime Minister’s office of the Government of Bangladesh (a2i). DPADM/UN DESA was also engaging the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the UNDP country office in Bangladesh. 
The NST workshop enhanced awareness and knowledge on OGD-related topics among middle-level public servants, statisticians, CIOs, ICT personnel, middle-level public servanrets, statisticians, CIOs, ICT personnel, CSO and private sector representatives, journalists and media representatives. As a result, it contributed to the development of an open data strategy and to strengthen the OGD ecosystem and open data community in Bangladesh. It assisted to identify priority public datasets to be published in open and reusable formats. Finally, workshop participants provided inputs to the draft outline of the national action plan on advancing OGD initiatives in Bangladesh. 

This event was organized as part of the project on “Strengthening of Capacities of Developing Countries to Provide Access to Information for Sustainable Development through Open Government Data (OGD)”. The overall objective of the project was to demonstrate the potential and benefits of using Open Government Data (OGD) in advancing transparency, accountability and sustainable development in selected countries of Latin America and East Asia regions. 
The project aimed at developing a strategy for creating and utilizing open data, particularly in thematic areas relevant to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It also assisted selected countries with the development of a policy framework and technical infrastructure for implementation of OGD initiatives.
