Africa Parliamentary Knowledge Network (APKN) with the support of the Africa i-Parliament Action Plan launched a survey targeted at Members and Staff of African Parliaments, aimed at assessing their information needs. Responses will be used to prioritize the activities of APKN around what are perceived as major information needs that Parliaments are currently facing, in order to better support the role of information in Parliaments’ work.

One of the core purposes of the Africa Parliamentary Knowledge Network (APKN) is to support the work of African assemblies, helping them to fill their knowledge gaps, by establishing mechanisms and procedures for exchanging information, experiences, and good practices.

To better assess and prioritize the information needs of MPs and staff of African Parliaments, APKN has launched an online survey that will be used as the basis of a needs assessment analysis, aimed to ensure that the APKN portal addresses effectively the needs and requirements of African Parliaments, becoming an even more valuable source of information and capacity building services for its members.

More specifically, the survey is meant to:

  • Gather a more accurate description of what kind of support MPs and staff may need to better support them in performing their work a the best of their potentialities;
  • Collect fresh ideas on new APKN online services that could be provided to the “Members”;
  • Identify criteria for prioritizing APKN online activities.

Contextually, the survey will also provide an opportunity to promote APKN and its services, and to establish a more direct communication channel with Members and Staff of African Parliaments.
