Bungeni - Parliamentary Information System was presented at the parallel session "Systems for managing the life cycle of legislative documentation" of the World e-Parliament Conference 2009 in Washington DC. The Conference that saw the participation of more than 400 participants was co-organized by the United Nations, the Inter-Parliamentary Union, the U.S. House of Representatives and the Global Centre for ICT in Parliament (3-5 Nov 2009) applauded Bungeni for its robustness and visible ability to manage parliamentary documents.

The presentation covered Bungeni bill processing highlighting the amendments, annotations processes and how this can be done by the different stakeholders in the cycle of the bill. The presentation also highlighted the MPs , Clerk and Speaker's work flows in developing and processing the different parliamentary content such as motions, questions, and supporting Committee work.

During the presentation and the Q and A session that followed, the opportunities presented by the open source model of development, that Bungeni is based on, were also highlighted. It was shown that Bungeni provides for a collaborative approach to improving the system, improvements can be shared with other parliaments and a critical mass of expertise created, elements that are necessary for developing high and sustainable quality information system. Bungeni is developed in a modular format thus allowing parliaments to selectively use certain functions to enhance their current systems and also provides a seamless integration of the work flow and the publishing of the final document.

The presentation initiated a number of after session individual presentations with several parliaments and requests for further support to localize and deploy it in their Parliaments. The Africa i-Action Plan has already started consultations with a number of Parliaments in this regard and is developing a roll out plan for early 2010.
