Age-friendly Auckland

Description:

"Auckland is developing a region-wide, cross-sector, age-friendly action plan for Auckland. The plan will: help us raise awareness of the needs and contributions of older Aucklanders improve outcomes for residents who are 65 years and over enable Auckland to join the World Health Organisation (WHO) global network of age-friendly cities and communities demonstrate our collective commitment to a friendly and inclusive Auckland. How Auckland has been engaging with the community We've been gathering feedback on what an age-friendly city would look like through: workshops meetings hui. Auckland also received feedback on what an age-friendly city would look like from 2232 People’s Panel members and 400 Have Your Say surveys. Organisations Auckland has been working with These organisations have already been doing some great work in the community for older Aucklanders. They've been a big part of the engagement process for age-friendly Auckland. Some will continue to play a big part in the creation of this plan: Te Kōtahi a Tāmaki - a collective of 33 Marae Age Concern Auckland Toa Pacific Selwyn Foundation New Zealand Indian Senior Citizens Association Hindu Elders Foundation. What the community has told Auckland We heard that our older people want a friendly and inclusive Auckland where all people are valued and have opportunities to connect with people of different ages, cultures and backgrounds. Older people and their whānau want to participate in everything Auckland has to offer and need barrier-free access to affordable transport, events and outdoor spaces. It is important that services and facilities are accessible and available where they need them, when they need them."
