Initiative: COVID-19 Vaccine Management System “Surokkha”

Institution: Department of Information and Communication Technology (DoICT)

Problem: Prior to the pandemic, there was no central public health database in Bangladesh. When the government decided to vaccinate citizens against the COVID-19, a vaccine management system was required.

Solution: To implement and manage the COVID-19 immunization programs, the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DoICT) designed the COVID-19 vaccine management system called “Surokkha.” The system is used to register citizens, schedule vaccination and issue vaccine certifications.

Impact: In January 2021, the COVID-19 vaccine registration system became live. The data from the system can be used for monitoring and policy-making at various levels of the government. The dashboard with various statistics on COVID-19 is under construction. At the time of this initiative’s application, about 69 million citizens have registered in Surokkha.
