Initiative: Mo Bus

Institution: Capital Region Urban Transport

Problem: Bus services in the city of Bhubaneswar needed improvement. The majority of people used private vehicles, two-wheelers and auto-rickshaw to commute instead of taking public transportation.

Solution: In 2018, the government of Odisha reorganized the public transit services in the city to provide an integrated, reliable and inclusive public bus service system. Mo Bus has incorporated real-time technologies like live tracking, travel planner and e-ticketing. An e-Rickshaw system called “Mo E-Ride” is also introduced as a last-mile feeder service to Mo Bus.

Impact: 57 percent of the commuter in the city are now using Mo Bus. Additionally, it is envisioned that the Mo E-Ride will promote a green, sustainable transportation solution with an estimated pollution reduction of 30 – 50 percent. 40 percent of Mo Bus conductors are women and 100 percent of Mo E-Ride drivers are women, transgender people, and people from disadvantaged communities.
