Initiative: User Experience Improvement in Care Blocks

Institution: High District Counseling Office for ICT

Overview: Among the 4 million women living in Bogotá, some 3.6 million are engaged in unpaid care work, with 1.2 million of these women working full-time in this capacity. Among these full-time caregivers, 33% report having no free time, 20% have been diagnosed with untreated chronic illnesses, and nearly 90% live in low-income situations. To alleviate the burden of unpaid care labour, IBO, the Public Innovation Lab of Bogotá, partnered with the Secretariat of Women to enhance the collection and registration of caregiver data within Care Block services. These blocks offer over 30 services provided by 14 different city agencies, aiming to generate comprehensive, high-quality data for developing more effective, data-driven policies. The Care Blocks recognize the role of care and caregivers, redistribute care more equitably between men and women, and reduce the time women dedicate to care by integrating a wide range of free services from thirteen district entities. These services are designed to support caregivers by improving their well-being and offering opportunities for personal development, better psychosocial health, income generation, and political participation for both female caregivers and other community members.

Impact:  Over 260,000 women have accessed services as of July 2023 through the Care Blocks.
