Question 1

Please describe the objective of the initiative introduced (200 words maximum)
• The project aims to empower vulnerable and abused girls for returning to society with dignity by increasing the level of self-esteem and self-reliance among sexually abused girls. Moreover, the project improves and prepares their social and occupational skills for perverting them from returning to poverty cycle when the protection by the government is over • Decreasing unemployment rate of vulnerable and abused girls after leaving government protection in reception home at the age of 18. More than 50 percent of project’s participants should successfully apply their necessary skills for entering the workforce; therefore, their dependence on public service would be declined • Developing a sample initiative training program, aims to social behavior adjustment. The project has developed “The tailor-fit program”, for girls who are sexually abused which using an 360° Individual Assessment Mechanism. This training program creates a channel for reflecting abused-girls’ demands, at the same time, reflecting useful data to policy makers, individuals responsible for developing a movement policy. Furthermore, the initiative would develop government official’s abilities and expand its practical use in other vulnerable groups throughout country and regions. • Integrating partnerships in order to enhance more corporation for sustainable approaches such as hiring opportunity, knowledge sharing and policy enforcement.

Promotes responsiveness to the need of women and girls • An initiative is considered as a channel, reflecting the true needs of abused-girls and women to policy makers. Therefore, the feedback will generate better interaction and develop concrete initiative and public services. Promotes gender parity in public service • The initiative, as a mechanism, gain confidence from employers in hiring abused-girls. Thus, abused-girls are able to access to career and public service. Provides access to high quality affordable services for women The program offers a social lab for developing individual skills. Therefore, abused-women could access to high-quality training without discrimination and bias.

Please describe in what ways the initiative is contributing to the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the realization of the SDGs. Specify which SDG(s) it is relevant to. (100 words maximum)
Goal 1: This initiative ensures productively working skills and knowledge, thereby, promoting the job security will avoid them from facing repetitive poverty and violence. Goal 4: Under the Child Protection Act, there are limited. Hence, their lifestyles are different from normal people, leading to a lack of self-development in accordance with the life cycle. Consequently, they might face difficulty challenges when welfare protection is over. Thus, this initiative provides accessibility to quality education in order to enhance the immunocompetence, social and life skills. Goal 5: The initiative increases the working value and respect among those valuable women.

Question 4

The initiative must have positive impact on a group or groups of the population, especially the vulnerable (i.e. children, women, older persons, people with disabilities, etc.) within the context of your country or region. Please explain how the initiative has addressed a significant shortfall in governance, public administration or public service within the context of a given country or region. (200 words maximum)
In Thailand, physical and sexual abused rate increased to 83.6% (7 children and women per/day). Then, 2,187 abused-people are under government’s protection. When leaving welfare protection, over 70% has no potential for employment and over 75% cannot access to standardized-education. Consequently, it leads to poverty and places further burdens on the government welfare funding Project has developed initiative to promote self-dependence for abused-girls, focusing on career development and explicit knowledge .Initially, approximately 40 participants have passed training and received income around 42,000 baht per person/year as funding and preparedness after leaving welfare protection. Moreover, their behaviors and attitudes impressively improve. Statistically, the level of self-esteem increases by 90 percent. Furthermore, if initiative effectively applied to other reception homes, the government expense would be saved at least 1,200,000 baht/year. Moreover, if all abused-girls could enter workforce, the government expense would be reduced by 64 million baht yearly.

a. Please explain in which way the initiative is innovative in the context of your country or region (100 words maximum)
Previously, government implied fixed model that not allow girls under government protection to leave protection area; thus, they only received non-formal education and training. However, their skill, knowledge, financial were insufficient to adapt into society. Transforming fixed model to process innovation, this initiative emphasizes on social learning and career development. To meet the needs of women and conform with the demand of current workforce, the initiative is tailor-fitted. Besides, participants improves their logical-thinking skill as self-immune. In addition, a project’s report reflects and illustrates needs of abused-women for the public sector in order to reform a concrete public policy.
b. Please describe if the innovation is original or if it is an adaptation from other contexts (100 words maximum)
The “Power in your hands” project is the first initiative for vulnerable women group in Thailand. It highlights on assessments of individual needs, career building, compensation, fund, and a social lab. Thus, those provide opportunities for participants practicing their abilities in a virtual environment. As a result, the reporting and monitoring processes are added to prevent a vulnerable girls from returning to an abuse cycle. Plus, this innovation has connected public, private and civil sector for driving better opportunity for vulnerable girls, not in charity way but in sustainable way.

Question 6

Has the initiative been transferred and adapted to in other contexts (e.g. other cities, countries or regions) to your organization’s knowledge? If yes, please explain (100 words maximum)
Power for Sustainable Future Foundation, Ministry of Social Development and Human Society and PTT Public Company Limited signed MOU, extending initiative to other centers. At present, the initiative has been transferred to destitute women center and there are 30 reception homes under Ministry of Social Development and Human Society. Hence, the growth rate is 300%. Moreover, Project aims to establish a Social Enterprise Model, reducing social inequality and promoting quality of life for young women. Furthermore, abused-women who successfully passed training program will be a role model, giving inspiration and motivating to another abused-women for confronting challenges posed in life.

Budget: 1.4 million baht are supported in order to develop abused-girls Thanyaphon Reception Home for girls such as 2 curriculums, training centers and bakery equipment. Human Resources: - Develop and educate mentors in Thanyaphon Reception Home to become A Level teachers. - Facilitate volunteers for active engagements and inspiring abused-girls. Knowledge: - Power for Sustainable Future Foundation and Thammasat University have designed explicit knowledge, combined academic and practical perspectives in order to shape initiative program accordance with the purposes of changing society. - Facilitate with private companies to train occupational skills such as baking, store trainees and barista.
b. Please describe whether and how the initiative is sustainable (covering the social, economic and environmental aspects) (200 words maximum)
Environment: Promote environmental-awareness from job training with responsible companies and natural-conservation activities. For example, abused-girls learn how to do waste separation and recycle. Society: - Provide curriculum for social-behavior adjustment which could transfer to others. An initiative has formulated by informing and consulting both youth and authority through stage-discussion with permission of Good Clinical Practice. Afterward, mentors and girls evaluated learning process and initiative. Thus, feedbacks from participants lead to sustainable process. - Select node which are project’s pioneers, for inspiring and guiding aggrieved girls to overcome their unfortunate fate. Using inspiring nodes empower their capacity to support themselves. - Staff: To create a sustainability, developing teachers to standard-mentors is critical. It ensured that initiative has passed on to others effectively. Thus, the specialized-program was developed and taught 9 mentors. - Reflect projects’ results to policy-makers, helping further initiatives in nation and region. Economy: - Provide lesson of savings planning and financial management. - Develop a starting capital from bakery selling, the dividend is divided into funding which 30% for abused-girls and 70% for working-capital. Plus, trainees receive income as their financial after leaving reception home. In this sense, it can be a sustainable sample of welfare system.

a. Has the initiative been formally evaluated either through internal or external evaluation?
Yes
The document officially submitted and assessed by the Faculty of Social Administration, Thammasat University which is external examiner. The assessment estimates the sample initiative of child and youth potential development and project’s overall. The methodology was qualitative and qualitative method which applied 360 Degree Appraisal, including in-depth interviews, questionnaires and observation. Furthermore, The 360° Appraisal designed to evaluate all stakeholders for full-circle feedbacks and aimed to score needs assessment, self-esteem, knowledge, behavior adjustment and satisfaction of 28 participants. Plus, participants who have job-training assessed for behavior adjustment, team-work, social, creativity and critical thinking skills by Thammasart University and company’s supervisors.

- Evaluation level of self-esteem: using Sorenson Self-esteem Test and Self-esteem Inventory Scoring Instrument - Assessment of learning process, 10 indicators; Acceptance of group format, Discipline, Teamwork, Role play and expression, Responsibility, Positive expression in group activities, Attitudes toward adaptation, Change of behavior, Building a good relationship, and Application of knowledge learned for self-future. - Evaluation behavior adjustment: 5 indicators; Memory and information preparation, search of the ongoing success, search of reinforcing factors and obstacles to success, and Lessons learned from work. - Project Evaluation: 4 indicator; process, logical order of the activity, guest speaker and quality of the activity.
c. Please describe the outcome of the evaluation (100 words maximum)
-The average level of self-esteem prior to girl training is 1.95. After completed program, it increases to 2.36, illustrating a rise in confidence by 0.42. -The average is Pass level. Results, 9 people are in very good level and 19 people are in good level. The average score is 28, compared to previous average (16). Thus, the final result increases by 12 units. -Evaluation behavior adjustment: improved 94% -Project Evaluation: respondents have rated their satisfaction at high level. -Process: very satisfied (4.54) -Logical order of activity: very satisfied (4.50) -Guest speaker: very satisfied (4.68) -Quality of activity: very satisfied (4.46)

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development puts emphasis on collaboration, engagement, coordination, partnerships, and inclusion. Please describe what and how stakeholders were engaged in designing, implementing and evaluating the initiative. Please also highlight their roles and contributions (200 words maximum)
Project’s stakeholders are Power for Sustainable Future Foundation, the Ministry of Social Development and Human Society, Thammasat University, private and civil sector. Since 2015, Foundation has originally initiated and facilitated project. In policy level, Ministry of Social Development and Human Society has signed MOU for promoting initiative and providing human capital (mentors and assistants). In addition, the Ministry has elevated project to internal fringe benefits. In implementation, foundation determines objectives and strategies of the project. Foundation has connected potential networking and partnerships in order to achieved goals. Firstly, Foundation, along with Thammasat University, has designed and developed training initiative for mentors and abused-girls. Plus, Thammasat University evaluated the initiative, social impacts and financial dimension. Coordinating with private sector, foundation drives social enterprise model with PTT Public Company Group Limited and San Palung Social-Enterprise Company Limited. They sponsor and set up a social lab, including bakery, training in Amazon café and jiffy convenience shops. Plus, PTT will distribute product of disadvantaged people through gas stations. Furthermore, private companies would form social enterprise planning, marketing and revenue to ensure the cash-flow and sustainability. Lastly, Foundation along with volunteers, has done product development, trained careers and inspired abused-girls for boosting their self-esteem.

Learning process: - Avoid creating bad emotion and help them reflect their feeling freely through painting, writing and counseling class. - Observe directly and indirectly all participants. - Work closely with government officers because they are the closest person to abused-girls. - Project require time and consistent. The Conflict Management: Attention on one person may also contribute to an increase in conflict. Thus, project staffs must equally give attention to participants. Ethics Research: Project gives respect and rights to the child as a priority. Therefore, child and parent were obliged to receive training description in every facet.
