Please provide a brief summary of the initiative including the problems/challenges it addressed and the solutions that the initiative introduced (300 words maximum)
Writing on papers was such a cumbersome work and some of the records were lost and they were running out of storage, and was not easy to track what and where the ambulance is at the current moment. Initially it was done by the Italian Cooperation then it was faces out in 2010(World Cup) then failed in 2011 cause the company that supposed to look after it was liquidated and the system crashed and nobody knew how to repair it. So we had to start coding it from catch and develop a new one. Make everything easy for management for decision making and manage daily operation of the movement of ambulances within the province. We are now able to reach the poorest communities cause we were able to increase the number of ambulances (30 Where bought) with the finance that was allocated for the new system that they wanted to procure (R50 000 000.00).Now it is quickly and easy to dispatch ambulances where ever it is needed and for the management to make decision and be able to see the shortage of ambulance around the province. It also serves the department of safety and security to track some records or can get some information on their cases. They use to have a limited number of personnel working at the control but now they have increase people that are dispatching hence the overtime have declined drastically. We are currently supporting it and we are planning to expand to so that the stakeholders can view reports anywhere and wherever they are in the world.

The system was introduced to assist the EMS component or department to manage ambulances and coordinate the dispatching and the transportation of patients from hospital to hospital in a form of transfer and patient from homes or accidents to the designated hospital. One has to imagine when you have to transport a MDR (TB) patient in a taxi, there would be an epidemic of such encounter, especial our province is about 54% or more rural settlers and they are so remote without ambulances. Make everything easy for management for decision making and manage daily operation of the movement of ambulances within the province.

We are at the far northern borders of the country where our neighbours are Mozambique and Swaziland, and we have an influx if illegal immigrant with unchecked diseases, most are jobless and they settle at the villages and our South Africans are exposed and most are elderly and vulnerable. They have difficulties in getting services cause hospital are very far from those villages and there was a lack of ambulances in our province , with the system initiatives we were or the department was able to divert the finance for buying the system and procure a number ambulances which were able to secure a satellite stations that is stationed at the rural should the ambulance needed at nearest Clinic or around the community and they are able to access to quality services for the poorest and most vulnerable people to quality and affordable public services.

Writing on papers was such a cumbersome work and some of the records were lost and they were running out of storage, and was not easy to track what and where the ambulance is at the current moment. We were able to reduce the response time for ambulances and we increased staff for better call taking and we were able to reduce overtime for staff. Staff can now rest and they are effective and efficient during the attending of incidents. The public are now able to get service on time and mortality rate have decreased drastically.

Now people or disadvantage communities do not have to wait for a long time to get ambulance service. And they have a reference on delayed or a not showing ambulance for future reference

The is lesser mortality rate, the spreading of diseases are reduces cause patients can now have a special equipment for a specific incident, thus the patient is not exposed to the environment.

We have used the degraded IT equipment left during world cup, and we have tried to resuscitate the old computers that people were not using.

No
We have the source code within our site and can be freely available if any other department want to utilise it, and can be modify to suit their need or specification.

With the current design of the application tool, we are able to sustain the system, and is able to run even on the old hardware without any inconvenience.

The system was built to last the next 100 years based on the requirement of that particular time the source code is upgradable to new environment of that particular time. It is adoptive and user friendly, even a novice user can use it

ICT Development team; EMS Station Managers, Control room managers, and Control Room personnel: ICT Development Team, they were coding designing and doing system analysis of the application. EMS Station Manager: he was responsible for application specifications and the report analysis of the overall outcome of the tool. The Control Room Manager: Coordinating the functional of the application, how the incident was reported and overlook if there were gaps in between. Control Room Personnel: the shift leader was testing the efficiency and the credibility of the data that is being captured.

We do not have sufficient hardware like server’s ups and computers. To run an efficient system tools good working environment will make us work more effective and internet line be upgraded and secluded to the rest of the network for the real time tracking of the ambulance and call recording for proficiency.
