Side event calendar during the high-level meeting is now available

The official side event calendar for the General Assembly High-level Meeting on the overall review of the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society is now available.

Delegations wishing to speak at the High Level Meeting are now requested to inscribe with the list of speakers

Pursuant to resolution 68/302 of 31 August 2014, a high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the overall review of the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), will be held on Tuesday, 15, and Wednesday, 16 December 2015, at 10:00 and 15:00, in the General Assembly Hall. A letter from the President of the General Assembly, dated 21 September 2015, was sent to all permanent representatives and permanent observers. Delegations wishing to speak are kindly requested to inscribe with the list of speakers, to the General Assembly Affairs Branch (Ms. Antonina Poliakova, e-mail poliakova at un.org, tel. 1 (212) 963-5063). Delegations are reminded that interventions should be limited to five minutes when speaking in national capacity and to seven minutes when speaking on behalf of a group.

Kindly note that this announcement is only for member states and observers.

High-level Meeting of the GA on WSIS+10 Review: Side event request form

Stakeholders who would like to organize a side event during the High-level meeting of the General Assembly on WSIS + 10 review  on 15- 16 December 2015 can now make their requests. Please click here to download the side event request form. Stakeholders are strongly encouraged to co-organize side events with UN Member States and UN Agencies.

Selection committee to identify speakers for the High-level Meeting is formed

A Selection Committee is established in order to ensure broad and inclusive participation of all relevant stakeholders as speakers in the General Assembly High-level Meeting on the overall review of the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society that will take place on 15-16 December 2015 at the UN Headquarters in New York. Draft outcome document is now available

A draft outcome document is now available which will form the basis for textual negotiations during the informal consultation that are scheduled to take place from 19-20 and 24-25, November. Please click here to see the outcome document and also here the letter of the President of the General Assembly. From now through the close of informals, Member States and all relevant stakeholders are invited to submit comments on the draft outcome document via email to ungawsisreview at un.org by 17 November 2015.

Second Informal Interactive Stakeholder Consultation - Preparatory Process for the General Assembly’s overall review of the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), 19 October 2015, 10 a.m. - 6. p.m. - United Nations Headquarters, ECOSOC Chamber

As indicated in the Roadmap of the preparatory process, the President of the 70th session of the UN General Assembly will organize the second informal interactive consultation on 19 October 2015 with all relevant stakeholders of the World Summit on the Information Society, to collect their inputs on the zero draft. This precedes the second preparatory meeting by Member States that will take place on 20-22 October 2015. The consultation will provide all relevant WSIS stakeholders an opportunity to contribute their views on the zero draft in a day of interactive panel discussions with representatives from various multi-stakeholders.

2nd Preparatory Meeting - for the General Assembly’s overall review of the implementation of the outcomes of the World summit on the Information Society (WSIS), 20-22 October 2015, ECOSOC Council, United Nations Headquarters, New York

The Second Preparatory Meeting of the WSIS review process will take place from Tuesday to Thursday, 20-22 October in ECOSOC Council at the United Nations Secretariat, New York. The focus of the Second Preparatory Meeting will accordingly be very much on engaging Member and Observer States as well as Observers to reach consensus on critical issues. Statements delivered at the meeting and written submissions will serve as the basis for the second draft version of the WSIS review outcome document that will be further developed, leading up to the High-Level Meeting on 15-16 December 2015. Given that the review concludes in only two months at the High-Level meeting, the Second Preparatory Meeting is structured to maximize interaction among Member and Observer States as well as Observers and focus attention on compromise.

ECOSOC adopts CSTD's Resolution on the WSIS 10-year Review outcomes

In a recent Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Coordination and Management meeting, held on 22 July, the Council discussed and adopted a resolution on the World Summit on Information Society based on the work and outcome report of the Commission on Science and Technology for Development (CSTD). The Commission’s Report E/2015/31 contained in its first chapter the resolution on the assessment of progress made in implementation of WSIS outcomes, recalling the overall review currently being undertaken by the General Assembly, highlighting the contribution of CSTD and other to the process.

Deadline for written submissions on the desired structure and content of the UN General Assembly's WSIS+10 overall review outcome document is 31 July

We would like to remind all stakeholders that the deadline for written submissions for the "non-paper" on the desired structure and content of the UN General Assembly's WSIS+10 overall review outcome document is 31 July. In that regard, Co-facilitators, Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks, Permanent Representative of Latvia, and Ambassador Lana Zaki Nusseibeh, Permanent Representative of the United Arab Emirates, reached out to all permanent Member and Observer States to encourage submissions before the deadline. Please click here to see their recent letter. Guiding questions and a description of the submission process are available by following this link. We strongly encourage all stakeholders to contribute. Following the release of the non-paper, all stakeholders will again be invited to submit comments electronically through the second week of September.

Informal Interactive Stakeholder Consultation - Preparatory Process for the General Assembly’s overall review of the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) 2 July, 2015, ECOSCO Chamber, United Nations Headquarters, New York

The President of the General Assembly will convene an informal interactive WSIS stakeholder consultations with all relevant stakeholders on 2 July 2015. The General Assembly, in its resolution 68/302 on the modalities for the overall review of the implementation of the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society, decided that the review will be concluded by a two-day high-level meeting of the Assembly, to be preceded by an intergovernmental preparatory process that also takes into account inputs from all relevant stakeholders of the World Summit on the Information Society. The General Assembly also decided that during the preparatory process for the high-level meeting, the President of the Assembly will organize informal interactive consultations with all relevant stakeholders of the World Summit on the Information Society, in order to collect their inputs for the intergovernmental negotiation process.
